The project is a joint venture between Thorney Island’s Army Welfare Service, Thorney Island Sailing Club and The Wheelyboat Trust.
It has funded, supplied and equipped a wheelchair accessible Mk IV Wheelyboat for use in and around Chichester Harbour for the benefit of individuals, families, groups and organisations.
The Wheelyboat is based at Thorney Island Sailing Club from April to October and Northney Marina from November to March.
She is named the ‘John Q Davis’ after Chichester‘s Harbourmaster who died while out sailing in the harbour with his wife Valerie in 2010. The Memorial Fund set up in John’s memory helped fund the purchase of the Wheelyboat and continues to support the project.
The John Q Davis was formally launched in June 2012.
